Scottish Storytelling Centre
Edinburgh, Scotland, 2006

Located on Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile, the Scottish Storytelling Centre won a RIBA Regional Award in 2007. KSLD worked with Malcolm Fraser Architects to integrate many of the lighting elements with the architecture to produce a clean, uncluttered interior. The centre is open to the public and houses a café, the Storytelling Court which doubles as a temporary exhibition space, and the Netherbow Theatre.

A particular feature of the Storytelling Court is the large ‘swing wall’, a hinged partition used to divide the space. This contains built-in display boxes filled with small objects and words related to children’s stories and fairy tales. Concealed lighting was detailed into the wall, illuminating when the doors to each box are opened.
