Peace Health Sacred Heart Hospital
River Bend, Oregon, 2007

Peace Health Sacred Heart Medical Center is a large hospital facility built on a new site in ecologically sensitive surroundings. The architects, Anshen + Allen, introduced KSLD to the project as the clients were looking for a distinctive hospitality direction to the interior design. Thematic interior design direction was provided by Wimberly Allison Tong and Goo, a respected hospitality architecture and design company.

KSLD worked with WATG and A+A to develop lighting schemes for the public areas that met both the medical requirements and created a suitable hospitality feel to the building overall. Introducing a hotel-like ambience to public spaces dissolves the sometimes aggressively clinical or institutional feel of a hospital. In a market where there is great personal choice over which hospital you attend for treatment, differentiation and improvement of the patient and visitor experience is essential to the hospital’s success. Lighting design plays a key role in balancing the medical needs with user comfort.
