Lothian Chambers, formerly the Midlothian County Council building, is the City of Edinburgh’s primary venue for civil wedding and partnership ceremonies. The building was recently fully renovated and refurbished, with spaces remodeled to suit it’s new functions. Architects Smith Scott Mullan worked with the historic fabric and many of the original interior finishes and fixtures have been retained.
KSLD were involved with lighting the front of house areas. The most eye-catching elements are the three original chandeliers in the largest function room. These were restored and upgraded to current standards by a specialist restoration company, Chelsom; work included fitting the chandeliers with opal glass shades similar to those it would originally have carried. KSLD also introduced concealed cold cathode uplighting at the perimeter of the upper hallway colonnade, and a flexible lighting system for meetings and presentations in the conference room.
