Loch Lomond Shores, Gateway Building
Scotland, 2000
This single storey glazed building is adjacent to woodland on the banks of Loch Lomond. The Gateway Building forms a public orientation and information centre for walking in and around the surrounding woodland. It is one of three new buildings that comprise the Lomond Shores Development by West Dumbartonshire Enterprise
The lighting of the woodland behind the building was an integral part of the lighting design brief and concept for the building. The careful application of light to the interior and exterior spaces allows the glazed building to appear transparent during hours of darkness. The interior lighting is sympathetic to the scale and form of the architecture. An automated control system allows programmed or manual scenes to be selected by the user.
