Last week New York this week London!

today i am writing from the train to London taking advantage of the “Scottish Executive” ticket to sit in First Class on a standard class ticket smile This is the dreaded 05.50 from Edinburgh, yes that time of the morning does exist! The calm walk to the station through deserted streets with no traffic was very refreshing. The train is much busier than it used to be I guess a lot of people rediscovered the train during the volcanic sh debacle.

I am supposed to be reading BS/EN 15193 Energy performance of buildings - Energy requirements for lighting. usual dull stuff except it holds the spark of the future of lighting energy legislation, basing requirements of estimates of actual energy used taking full account of lighting controls, setting management criteria and generally freeing us lighting designers of stupid rules and requirements that don’t actually save energy in themselves such as mandated efficiencies of fittings and lamps but not requiring they be switched off when not required! This will form the basis to lectures I will be giving at the joint PLDA /  ILE meeting on 14 July in London, Before that I am speaking in Istanbul on Friday, Shanghai on 27 June, Lovelight Edinburgh on 1 July, I had better go write some papers!
